2 . BEFORE YOU TAKE Oxycontin
Do not take OxyContin
– If you are allergic to oxycodone, morphine or other opioid painkillers, or any of the other ingredients of the product
if you suffer from respiratory depression (difficulty breathing ) , severe airway obstruction ,
– Severe asthma
– Cranial trauma
– Paralytic ileus ( type bowel disease ) ,
– Acute abdomen ,
– Delayed gastric emptying ,
– Increased plasma levels of carbon dioxide
– Concomitant medication to treat depression (monoamine oxidase ) inhibitors or within two weeks of their termination.
It is not recommended for use prior to surgery or within 24 hours after surgery.
Take special care with oxycontin
OxyContin tablets should be used with caution in patients dependent on drugs, toxic psychosis patients with increased intracranial pressure , seizures , delirium tremens , hypotension , hypovolemia ( low blood volume ) , diseases of the biliary tract , biliary or ureteral colic, pancreatitis ( inflammation of the pancreas) , obstructive and inflammatory bowel disease , prostatic hypertrophy , adrenocortical disease ( malfunction of the adrenal glands ) , hypothyroidism , chronic obstructive pulmonary disease , acute alcoholism , chronic renal or hepatic disease. In patients requiring alertness dose of OxyContin tablets should be reduced. OxyContin tablets should not be administered to patients at risk of paralytic ileus .
OxyContin 80 mg tablets with prolonged release should not be administered to patients who are not receiving opioids , since in these patients, the dosage can result in life-threatening respiratory depression .
With continued use of OxyContin patients can develop tolerance. In such cases, they require a higher dose to achieve the desired control of the pain. Continuous use of the product can lead to physical dependence . If treatment is stopped abruptly , can be observed withdrawal symptoms. Discontinuation of therapy with OxyContin be gradual to avoid withdrawal symptoms. OxyContin has primary potential dependence. Proper use in patients with chronic pain reduces the risk of physical and psychological dependence and should be assessed in the light of the expected benefits of treatment. Discuss this with your doctor. In case of current or previous alcohol dependence , the product should be used with caution .
The pharmaceutical formulation of OxyContin ensures release of the active substance within a longer period of time so that the efficiency of OxyContin is extended ( ” prolonged release” ) . Swallow the tablets in order not to infringe the sustained release of the active substance .
Taking other medicines
Please tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines, including medicines obtained without a prescription .
If you are taking medication for depression , for example . MAO inhibitors or have taken them within the last two weeks , tell your doctor OxyContin should not be coadministered with drugs for sleep , for example . tranquilizers , hypnotics or sedatives, cimetidine ( an ulcer drug , indigestion or heartburn ), and drugs for high blood pressure. If you have recently received anesthetic, also tell your doctor.
Reception with food and drink

Pregnancy and lactation
Ask your doctor before taking any medicine . Implementation of OxyContin tablets are not recommended during pregnancy and lactation .
Oxycodone is excreted in breast milk and may cause respiratory depression in the newborn. Therefore OxyContin tablets should not be used during breast-feeding , or if necessary , breastfeeding should be discontinued.
Driving and using machines
OxyContin may impair your reactions to varying degrees depending on the dose and individual sensitivity . If you are concerned your reactions if you feel sleepy, or you can focus should not drive or operate machinery.
Important information about some of the ingredients of OxyContin
This medicinal product contains lactose. If your doctor has told you that you have an intolerance to some sugars, contact your doctor before taking this product.
3 . HOW TO TAKE oxycontin ?
Always take OxyContin exactly as your doctor tells you . If you are not sure, ask your doctor or pharmacist.

If you take an overdose of OxyContin , or if someone accidentally swallows all tablets , immediately call your doctor or hospital.
Specific effects can be : pinpoint pupils ( miosis ) , respiratory depression ( hypoventilation ) , insomnia , decreased skeletal muscle tone and decreases in blood pressure. In severe cases may occur : circulatory collapse , paralysis ( stupor ), loss of consciousness ( coma), slow heart rate (bradycardia ) and water retention in the lungs ( cardiogenic pulmonary edema) . Misuse of high doses of strong opioids such as oxycodone may have lethal consequences. When using oxycodone Never activities requiring a high degree of concentration , such as driving .
If you forget to take OxyContin , take the missed tablet immediately , unless it is approached the time of making the next tablet . Then continue every 12 hours.

4 . POSSIBLE SIDE EFFECTS
Like all medicines, OxyContin can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
In most patients, the product is causing constipation. Your doctor may prescribe a mild laxative. Besides constipation in most patients taking the tablets does not create other problems. If you do occur, they are minor and resolve in a few days.
When the tablet might feel nausea and feeling sick . It will pass in a few days . Your doctor may prescribe medicine to prevent vomiting.
When you start taking your tablets or increasing the dose , you may feel that you can not concentrate or that you are sleeping more than usual . These complaints will pass after a few days.
In rare cases, you may experience the following symptoms : dry mouth , sweating, vertigo ( dizziness) , asthenia (weakness ), headache, mood swings, irregular heartbeat , disorientation ( confusion) , flushing , hallucinations, bronchospasm ( narrowing of the airways ) and colic (sudden abdominal pain) and dependence ( drug addiction ) .
Very rarely can be observed difficulty in urinating . Rare cases of low blood pressure and slow heart rate . Some patients complain of allergic reactions such as rash and itching.

5 . HOW TO STORE oxycontin ?
Keep out of reach of children. Do not store above 25 ° C.
Do not use after the expiry date stated on the pack . To celebrate the expiry date is used abbreviation EXP . The expiry date refers to the last day of that month.
Medicines should not be disposed of via wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist how to dispose of medicines no longer required . These measures will help to protect the environment.
